Search! You'll find that the 1.8T is much better to mod, while the 2.8 is slightly faster stock. If you search you will find eeeeverything you need to know about this.

even though the search engine would have answered you I'll reply to this since I both owned 2.8 and 1.8t both manual and automatic.

If you plan on spending a lot of money on mods or want something that will be really fast(with the right amount of money involved) go with the 1.8T. But if you just want the car with maybe intake and exhaust (which is cheaper). Go with the 2.8 . The 2.8 is faster stock but in the mod race the 1.8 will end being a faster car.

2.8 = solid, reliable, but you can't mod the engine at all
1.8 = modders dream, can be fast as hell, but more expensive to maintain in general, especially as mods put additional strain on the engine

I've got a K&N intake from Lltek. The benefits of intakes for our engine are hotly debated, you may notice a slightly better throttle response, but the only thing you REALLY get from an intake is a nice howl around 5,000 rpms. And be careful with putting the cleaning oil on the K&N, too much oil will screw up your mass air flow sensor and make you run rich. But I got the intake used for half-price, so I figured what the hell.

Regarding the exhaust, I haven't saved up the money for one yet, but I want a Borla. As I understand it, they're the only catback exhaust for our engines that will just bolt on without any custom piping. Haven't really done my homework on that though, so I could be wrong.

Most people don't hate on the 2.8s, but the turbo folks definitely know their engine is more tuner-friendly. However, most of them will be on the third K03 or K04 by the time they hit 125,000 miles, whereas my 2.8 will just be getting broken in :-) Now, PLENTY of people diss my Tiptronic transmission...I'd definitely say go with a manual if you're an ethusiast, but if you have circumstances forcing you to get the Tip (as I did), the Tips really aren't bad at all.

nice. yeah the ive got a K&N too from ebay..only 25 bucks for the nice howling. sounds freakin bitchin in the tunnels though! only had one problem with the MAF and that was cause the idiot sent me a VW tube so it coldnt made a complete seal. scared the absolute crap outta me when the RPM's suddenly shot up to 8 grand. by the way do you know anywhere I could get just the intake stainless steel tube? im using the stock tube and although it does the job, i know it could be better.

I heard that too concerning the borla exhaust as bolt ons. personally i like them to be welded just for that added security. I just purchased and installed a magnaflow muffler and some nice dual chrome tips put on. haha but again looks like all i got was a nice howl. oh well.

When I got the car I didnt realize that we had a N/A motor and the 1.8's got all the motor fun. but it definetly pays off with the maitenence. I want to keep it a sleeper but want that extra power too.....so might be in store for a PES G2. not sure if the funds could handle it right now though.

As for the Tip..i dont bag on em...i just like a 3rd pedal haha
