That can be another reason bad Valve steam seals
but he said black smoke ?

 

The car's a 1995 model.

It's the 1.9 TDI SE (90bhp) and it's got worse since I originally posted.

Now you get quite a bit of black smoke every where I drive. I've also noticed sometimes that the performace drops too, doesn't reach as higher speeds etc.

Is this sounding like it could be expensive?

It's not been serviced for about a year and it's done about 150,000 miles too.

Any advice?

 

go to tdiclub or whatever...search for the TDI forum online...specific to VW i think..it'll help you out
