I wouldnt let Firestone touch my car with a 40 ft long torque wrench. Go to a place where they use an alignment rack that uses lazers. This is an Audi, not a Ford Fiesta....
Ive had 5 different horror story experiences at 3 different Firestone's in my time. All of which employ rude condisending foul mouthed service manager's and technicians who were on rip off missions. Ya Im bitter, but I'd still only take my Audi to a place that has the most high tech alignment racks with FREAKIN LAZER BEAMS ATTATCHED TO ITS HEAD!

Well, that's your choice.

The Firestone's I go to have more late model QX56's, BMW's, and Audi's coming in and out than the dealer bays in town do.

I think you have a rather silly prejudice though.

Did you get your problem straightened out? What part of the tire is worn?

Actually to add fuel to the fire, when I was working at Midas we had several cars come down after getting their cars aligned at other shops trying to take advantage of the "lifetime alignment" saying that it was still not driving straight. When we put them on the rack they would definately not be within limits of the specified vehicle's parameters, and we'd align it for them, print out their starting parameters, so that they could go get a refund. The worst part of the situation was that every customer had said they had already complained that it wasn't driving straight to the prior shop, and the service managers basically said tough sh*t. We did have a machine that was equipped with lasers, and extremely touchy (accurate). I aligned my Integra and that thing drove straight as an arrow.

Our shop's warranty.... "25 feet or out the bay door, whichever comes first". You'd be surprised at the amount of WOMEN that would come in get an alignment, and we'd watch tag a curb leaving the parking lot.

what I'd do is plan on buying a pair of new tires and having the vehicle checked for alignment. Depending on what tire is worn it could be bent components (i.e. control arm), or even a bad tie-rod. But more than likely it is just simply out of alignment. If its being given to you spend the couple hundred bucks to have it looked at and get a good pair of tires on it.
So in response to this, do you think it would be ok to replace two of the tires if it was just an alignment thing? I was under the impression that on an AWD vehicle you had to do all the tires.

Thanks!

Depends how worn the other two tires are. If they're really damn close to new, you'll probably be OK. But the rule of thumb is that different size tires could screw up your quattro...and that goes for 2 different brands of tires, even if they're brand new and the same size. There are still subtle differences in size, consistency, sidewall flex, etc.

If you're getting the car pretty much nothing, I'd definitely just throw on a new set of 4 and be done with it.

Just my relatively uninformed opinion...

Well that gives me a good start. I will check the tread depth on the good tires, & if they are pretty new & I can find identical replacements I will just do two. If they are around 1/5 worn or more, then I will replace all 4.

Thanks again for the responses again guys!
