what length extended stud would i need for a 12mm space and i assume it should be tappered as it's aftermarket wheels

I'd make sure that the spacer is hubcentric...

And I'm not sure about the length. Measure your stock bolts and add 12 mm? :P
I can't remember the stock bolt size... I bet you can find it at ecstuning.com, though.

 

stock is 27mm + 12mm spacer = 39mm extended but i cannot get 39mm would 40mm be ok
