Default 18" wheels, do I have to lower?

I would like to get some 18" repro. RS4 wheels, but I read that you have to (well should) lower the car or it will look stupid. So my question is will it look any more stupid then my stock 16s now? I don't really want to lower it cause I love to snowboard (and have to drive through snow), so the more ground clearance, the better.

thanks

how much snow do u drive through??? i personally think that a4's that have not been lowered, and have larger rims, look like 4x4's. atleast get an inch drop or something... unless u have the sprorts suspension, then they will look fine

Yeah I am in the same boat. I just decided to wait until after the winter to get a good set of rims and lower. You might as well get a good set of coil-overs when you do lower the car so you can raise/lower for winter/summer.

coil overs would be the best option, but they are pretty expensive, u should plan on spending around 1000-1500 before its all said in done. Where do u guys live?? i live in colorado, and drive my a4 FWD with all seson tires to all the resorts here and never have problems, i also just lowered my car, and i cant imagin i will have any more trouble with that

Yeah, it will look real stupid. Just save the 18s until spring or until you can afford height-adjustable suspension. I think stockers look much better than 18s in 4x4 mode.

hey man, you Don't HAVE to do anything. but to be honest with you, most cars do look a little odd with 18's if theyre at normal height, and i bet you would feel the same after getting the 18 inch rims. if for some reason or another you dont want to lower your car, it'd help to paint your lower trim to match your car, it gives the illusion that it's been lowered and it looks nicer (sry if someone already mentioned that i didnt feel like reading all the posts)

I have sport pkg, and 17's... and I didn't like how it looked prior to lowering. I have a b5 though. B6's can get away with 18's with sport, maybe... they can clearly get away with 17's, as that is factory equipment.

But yeah, coilovers are the way to go... I just put on my 15" snows and raised it up last weekend!

This is how it will look before you lower it if you have a b5 w/ non sport suspension:

def lower it, looks too high, as everyone else said. don't be cheap and shell out money for coilovers, cuz if you do just springs, you'll screw up the shocks... on that thought, don't buy cheap wheels either, as I hate to see Audis with like BSAs on them, or FLIKS.

so you guys are saying that IF you have the sports suspension and you put on 18s it will still have a low stance? as in the way it looks stock with the sports suspension and 16s on a B5?
