Default 1999 A4 1.8T Immobilizer

Hello all, anyone out there that can answer the question of whether or not my 99' has an immobilizer? I had the keys stolen and ordered new ones but the dealer can't tell me whether it does or not. Is there anway to tell by the build date or the vin#? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to avoid having the car towed to the dealer which is approx 2hours away. Thanks

No America didn't get the immobilizer until like 2001 or something.

OK, I had my friend pick-up the $225 worth of keys yesterday and will have them tomorrow. The guy at the parts counter kept telling me I had to have it towed to them and programmed because of the immobiliser. The service department however couldn't tell me whether it did or not. They just told me that I would have to put the key in and see of the yellow light came on. I was less than impressed with their knowledge of a vehicle they work with almost every day. Thanks.

All you should have to do is reprogram the key fob which takes like 2 minutes.

do a search on this forum for "reprogram key" and you'll find the instructions.

If I ordered the key from the dealer by using the vin, should it have come with the correct FCC?

You will end up paying like $160-200 USD for a new key. Order one off ebay and reprogram the remote - just match up the FCC #.
