Default 1999 A4 1.8T Quattro

I let one of my boys borrow my car and it ended up running out of gas while he was driving. So he went to the gas station and filled up a gallon jug about halfway with diesel (without realizing) . He put .5/gal in the car and the car started but it sputtered and then stopped. He realized what he did and went back and filled the jug with a gallon of regular gas (I think 87). He put the gas in and then started the car, the car started but then sputtered and shut off. He said this happened about 8 times until he started revving the engine, but it still wouldn't idle correctly. I have not driven the car yet, I'll be back on Wednesday to see what happened. But do you guys think the engine will be alright or is there anything I can do to fix his mistake? [&:]

He said the car runs fine now but it is still a bit rough...

Thanks in advance for the help!

Not to be a dick but, has your friend ever driven a car before? Does he normally drive a diesel truck? The pumps are clearly labeled and the fuels even smell differently. Make sure you get all of the fuel out of the tank and take it to a shop were they can clean the fuel system. Tell your friend never to drive your car again EVER.

Yeah I have NO idea how he confused the two, I think in my area they are two different color pumps. But would it even be helpful to siphon the gas out because it was so little diesel that it has probably been used up from driving around...

Does a siphoning pump from an autozone or pepboys usually run around $4-8?

hah, this is like that time that my dad brought home 5 gallons of "gas" one of the guys where he works didnt know his truck was diesel so he filled it up with gas
my dad figured there couldnt be that much diesel in it so he brought it home and dumped it in our yard truck.. that thing sputtered and ran like hell for months till it all burned off

Might want to run some fuel system cleaner just incase any of the deisel didnt burn off right. Not really a big deal.. But I would consider giving your friend a hefty bitch slap accross his mouth.
