i'm in the process of purchasing a 1999 A4 2.8L Quattro(Duh!). looking for some basic, not so expensive upgrades, engine or body?

the first thing i want to do is put a good air intake on it, any reccomendations? p-flo? K&N ?

in the future i was going to look into a good tuning chip, but i'm not sure what is out there for the 2.8L

any suggestions about any upgrades would be appreciated!!

 

If you really want to tune the car for Speed get a 1.8T, a chip alone will make the car much quicker than the 2.8. Use the search feature, there are quite a few comparison threads between the two engine with what you can and cannot do.

 

buy one of those $40 ebay short shifters. Best mod I've ever done.

 

if your looking to mod your car stay away form the 2.8 it has no where near the potential that the 1.8 does unless you plan to spend a **** ton of money

 

the 2.8 is sick man.. i jus dropped an intake and my car sounds like the g35 it growls

i want to get a short throw shifter but im affraid that id be getting myself in over my head when installing...is it hard?

 

For 2.8 chips, GIAC has one...although don't expect too much from it. I'd have to check, but I think it gives some like 10 extra HP, mostly just smooths out the acceleration curve. Many people don't think it's worth the money. Certainly not the insane power gains you get from chipping a 1.8T.

I've always been interested in the chips made by Upsolute....they make chips for the 2.8 and claim bigger gains. Key word being "claim". They're relatively new to the Audi scene, so there's not a lot of feedback on them.

 

Its pretty straight foward and easy... Take your time, read the instructions..

and if you dont have one already, get a good Snap Ring Pliers

 

Which intake did you put on? that is the sound i'm looking for.

anyway, i'm well aware that the 1.8T is by far more tuneable. but i like the ride of the 2.8 , more linear power curve, little bit smoother ride. and plus i already bought it, haha. i'm not looking for big mods or lots of speed, i live in the city and i go to college, aka, if its too nice it will be gone in the morning and i'm a college kid, hence not a **** ton of money to spend. just really looking for minor mods, such as intake, maybe a chip, some cosmetic upgrades ( tint, maybe a different grill, debadged) i also plan on lowering it for better handling. any suggestions on springs? H&R?

also, i'm pissed cause i had a 2000 lined up with 50K and the dude was jerkin around, so i basically told him to **** off. the 2000 was exactly the same but with less milage and HID's ( Which i really wanted) oh well.
