1999 A4 with 30K miles - questions
Hi All,
I'm looking at getting a 1999 A4 for my fiance. The car is as follows:
1999
A4 Quatro
2.8 V6
30,000 miles
So, what am I getting myself into? The car has maintenance records including the 30K tune up. What things should I be looking for? What issues are known to exist past 30K miles? Any maintenance issues that have to happen between now and 70K miles? Assuming everything checks out with the car, which would you go with - the above? or a 2003/4 A4 1.8T - non-quatro with 30K miles?
Thanks for the info all!
marc

well unless your fiance is in to moding german cars id say go with the 2.8 there a little more reliable and less to worry about fixing. the first big things you will have to do on that car is ataround 80k when you should replace the timing belt and water pump other then that just make sure you do all the regular thingslike getting the oil change on time and you should be fine

the only concern between now and 70k are the 'the car hasnt been driven like it was intended so trouble no one expects pop up.' happens all the time in fl. cars sit for 6 months @a time or its driven to the store 6mi 2xs a week then sits. bought an 10yo camry w/45mi. by 50kmi, had to replace the radiator. got a friend w/a 96 mb sl320 52kmi. everytime it goes into the dealer, needs something replaced/repaires. now, they just tell him they'll call if its over $5k. that said, id look long and hard @it anyway. long lifespan left, i'd expect.
