I know german engineering is at it's best when it comes designing cars, but could they have designed something better with the speakers? Geez, so much for turning my A4 into a car audio competition car, guess I'm going to have pay someone to do the work now..

Just kidding, I'm sure there's a logical reason why they did what they did with the speakers, I just got so used dealing with japanese cars to the point of being spoiled...

 

aaah yeah... so whats the problem?

 

I got 5.25" mids that I want to drop in the car, hefty 5.25" mids, can't do it with a tiny 4" speaker hole and adapter. I got a warped door speaker that sounds like booty right now and I'm tired of looking at my mids collecting dust...

 

Hmm well I got 6s in my rear door panels did they fit? no but I made them fit... oyul have to make your own bracket and you have to remove the plastic grill that covers the botom of the door and make the hole bigger. yeah its deffinately a PITA

B) Sounds like you should buy speakers that fit the car..

C) I don't wanna ever here about Jap cars being better about speaker sizes from anyone ever again! My last car 93' Corolla had 5" speaker wells in the rear...not 5.25"..no...5"...there are no adapters for them and no one makes a 5inch speaker despite advertising that they do...its actually 5.25". So Jap cars can kiss my *** with their proprietary speaker sizes!

D) Don't mind me...I'm just pissy about audio systems right now...

 

I'm just trying to build me another competition level system in the audi, seems it's going to take a little bit more planning..

Sure I got buy some crap 4" mids, but as a sound quality competitor I need just a tad bit more upfront.. Back to research.. I'll post something if I find a solution..

 

What more solution to do you need, like slim said, there not going to fit you have to make them fit. Its a shame were not lucky enough to own jap cars with bigger places for mids.

Come on now, I've only had the car for 4 months and I didn't get it for the sound system.
here's a few reason I got it, it's a sleeper (4 dr sedan, 5 spd auto, small family car), not something a ricer would expect to hand it to them, easier to modify, and it's already boosted, price was right. I got it for the performance & status.

I got the accord to compete with in sound competitions, it's so easy to work on, but I'm stepping it up a knotch next year, I have plans to use the audi, I just need to get some decent size speakers in the car. Here's what I have in mind:

5 1/4 mids in the front doors
maybe some 6 1.2 in the kick panels
Focal TN 51 tweeters in the door tweeter locations
JL Audio 6W0 subs in the rear deck or in a box hanging from the rear deck.
Keep the factory Headunit w/ changer and use a alto mobile processor to control everything (x-over, eq, time alignment, everything)

I just need to get the front speakers in, then I can get everything else, well back to searching for some parts...

 

mbquart made a 5 1/4 adapter plate for the A4 front doors. Good luck on finding one though.

Best thing to do is just follow SlimChriz's advice and make an adapter, or go to your friendly audi store and have them make one.
