Default 2.0 T ????

Im a new audi owner, just purchased a very clean 99 1.8t quattro a4 w/ a MT. Everything is great with it, runs perfect but it has high mileage (130k) so im looking into dropping a new block in but i would like to have a 2.0l. So heres the question, would the newer 2.0 a4 motor swap in or would i have to get a used one and bore it out and rebuild ??? i did a search and didnt come up with much. thanks agian.

** Update**
I found this thread which was really useful, and i also found out that the stock pistons are very strong so i may just pick up a forged rod kit and call it a day.

it would be damn near impossible to cover all that need to be taken care of with thta kinda moter swap. 130K is not high, I just passed 142K and still kicken. the 2.0 had direct injection and no suporting fuel system upgrades out for it. Its basicly waiting to be discoverd. while the 1.8T is mor than adiquite for just about anything you would ever want to actualy do with it. If youdon't think so, then the 2.0T won't fix that either. stick with the 1.8 and do thing to it.

yesh...that would be a horrible waste and for a wee little power gain. if you REALLY want a 2.0L engine, there is a kit to stroke your engine out to a 2.0L, but i dont think its worth it. for much less money, you can have a lOT more power. yes, there is no replacement for displacement. but it sure is a lot cheeper to leave it alone. you would be suprized what power these little engines can put out.

the replacement comes in the form of forced induction, (fooling the little moter into believeing its bigger than it really is) but .2 of a liter is hardly gonna make it fast.

basically i was just looking to do something while i had the head off, im gonna look into some rods and pistons then since the 2.0 thing doesnt look like its gonna work. i dont want to mess with the stroke ( i like to rev).

We hear what your saying, its just not cost effective. you can do so much more with the engine the way it sits. Try a chip for instance. big gains, low risks. you'll be amazed. and as for what to do with the head off. I say nothing. Leave it bee unless your gonna go all the way. Queston, Why do you have the head off. Do a timing belt change while your in there, Other wise you'll be given a reason to swap the motor.

imma be doing the head gasket, timing belt, and inspect the motor. I got a GIAC chip on the way, but i want to get this motor ready for more power and boost. i dont wanna worry about it going to **** on me.

If you want to tear the engine apart, then you can upgrade the internals with stronger parts and the 20mm wrist pins. And drop the pan and clean out any sludge that may have accumulated.

Then upgrade the clutch and go with a Big turbo if you want lots of power.

GIAC chip is fine with your engine as it is/was. I'm at 160K, chipped for the last 80K miles. Just did my second timing belt change.
