Default 2.8 or 1.8t

well i've taken a liking to the 99-01 audi a4's. ofcoarse if i do plan on gettin the car it will be quattro.

the question i have is which engine is prefered. the 1.8t or the 2.8

i'm not looking from a performance stand point but a reliability, repair cost view

if you guys could give me your opinions from personal experience and from the knowledge gained throught the time of your interest in audi's it would really help me out on a audi a4 purchase

thx in advance

This is a question as old as the A4...

The general consensus is that the 1.8t is good for modding and performance. It has readily available bolt on parts and its a turbo!

The 2.8 is has a more reliable normally aspirated engine that is higher performance in its stock form.

Since you say you do not care about performance upgrades, I would opt for the V6.

If you're planning on chipping, then you can only go with the 1.8t. The 2.8 won't benefit from chipping - nobody chips them anyway.
But I agree with the guys above; go with the 2.8 if you want greater reliability and easier maintenance.

Lots of people chip their 2.8's.
