2.8 Drivers - What are you getting for gas mileage?
I've got a 01 A4 2.8Qwith 104k mi. and according to the dash, I've been averaging 18.5mpg. I make a conscious effort not to be speedy or do other things to adversly affect my mileage. I just changed the air filter (fram) and the oil. The spark plugs look okay, but the engine is running fine and I don't think they need to be replaced. Is 18.5 reasonable for this car/engine? Is there anything I should check out to improve the mileage?
Thanks
Thanks
You could try the old Seafoam treatment.
Edit: And in my 2.8, I can depend on getting about 21-22 mpg using 93. I do probably 50/50 highway/city and when I'm on the highway, I'm often in traffic. Yours seems low, but as mentioned below, not if you drive mostly in the city.
There have been some dirty, stinking liars talking about 30+ mpg and they'll probably chime in on here, but pay no attention. They're bad, bad people. (Evidently, it's not clear that that's a joke...it is)

might want to do that math manually cause mine is always a little off (tells me im gettin worse mpg than i actually am) when i check that way. but im gettin 22-24 using 91
Oh yea, I'll have to Seafoam it.
I have another question, but rather than start a new thread I'll ask it here:
When the heat or a/c or anytime the fan is on, I hear a clicking noise that does not vary depending on engine speed or mph. I can barely hear the sound when the wheel is straight, but the farther I turn the wheel to either the left or right, the louder the clicking is. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger's side front of the car, maybe behind the dash. Everything works fine other than the clicking. Any clues as to what this could be?
