Default 2.8 starting problems?

-car will start just fine for a month or so
-then randomly it will just turn over and not start, and it seems like its flooding itself because ill smell gas fumes?
-it will putter and start all crappy after i let it sit for a bit, finally after running it revs up a bit to around 2k
-after its done it goes back to normal until it happens again

there is a check engine light on, but when we checked it, its an emissions code

but last night it happened and this morning it happened again

so i thought id see if anyone has any ideas on what’s wrong before i go talk to the audi stealership about it

What happened in mine was after driving it and it was warm and I shut it off, it would just turn over and not start. I had to hold the gas pedal all the way to the floor while turning it over. It was the coolant temp sensor which was $36 from the dealer and took me 15 minutes to install.

Yeah the CTS is gonna be the most likely cause, and it tends not to throw a fault code.

Probably the CTS but it could be the crank postion sensor which was the cause of my NON-start problem.

thanks for the quick replies guys, yeah it happend again and i let it cool down for awhile... then it still wouldnt start, so when i about gave up i was going to push it over to a parking spot by the gas station and it started thank god...

but first thing ill try is the cts, install that and if the problem persists ill go in and think about other options suchs as the crank pos sensor...

thanks alot!
