Default 2 new tires?

One of my tires' sidewalls blew out. is it alright to get only 2 new tires, with the awd?

if you can find 2 used tires that are the same tread depth/tread pattern as the ones you are leaving onyou could get by until you need all 4 replaced.

I just bought 2 used tires to replace the dead continentals on my front - $100 I bought the same pattern and the same sort of wear as the rears so it should be fine.

Man, its fine to just buy 2 new ones... Don't trip about it, just make sure you get the same exact tire...

I just replaced only 1 of my tires, works great... my other ones are only 6 months old and look like there brand new.. AWD makes tire wear... non-exsistant

the issue with replacing only one tire on an all wheel drive vehicle is that the new tire has a larger diameter than the old ones. this creates havoc with the differentials, and can cause unnecessary wear. as missionctrl said, if you can find 2 tires that are of similar tread depth and pattern as yours, then you would probably be ok until you have to replace all of them.

yeah, the tires that are on there are about 50% worn, so i was wondering if it would be alright to just replace two. but, i dunno. i'm used to 4x4 trucks, and i know better than to replace just 2 at that point, but i'm not sure about awd. my dad is going to pay for it (thank god, i'm a poor college student), but i don't want him to have to pay for 4 if its not required. if i was go get 2 tires, they're going to be new most likely. i'll get 4 if i have to, but i don't want to if i don't have to.
