well, I used a chemical called aircraft coating remover, and it basically makes the paint bubble, which is the step in the pics above, then I went ahead and scraped off that with a rubber blade and the metal is underneath

so what you did was remove the clearcoat, and just polished. Did you put that clear coat on before or it came on the wheels when you got them. Im just wondering if i have a clear coat on mine too.

I actually got those used, so i dont have pics when they were new. however Im still debating whether or not i should take them apart. Im either going take out the spokes and get them painted black( mines as well polish the lip) or keep them on and mask just mask the lip n paint the spokes and the bolts too. Im not sure if i want the bolts to be black or leave the bolts unpainted. whats your opinion? So anyways i figured mines as well polish the lip if the spokes are off. cus right now my lip dont even shine like before anymore. And i dont know how else to ge that shine

Yea I would take them apart and paint only the spokes, not that bolts. that would look great!

NICE WHEELS TOM!!!

yours should be a piece of cake to do. mine were attached the same way.
i dropped the tire pressure to about 20 pounds and removed the bolts. the rims barrels are one piece and hold air just fine. i even made an audi logo out of them while the centers were at the powdercoater.

bath time for the barrels:

the bbs' titanium bolts required a loctite primer before i could apply loctite to them. i chased the threads in a die ($7) and cleaned up the bolts before primering them. i torqued them to 18 ft/lbs. apply loctite (medium strength removable) to each bolt right before you put it in.
