Default 2000 A4 1.8TQ vs 2000.5 A4 1.8TQ

Ok, I noticed similar posts to mine regarding the S4... but I just bought a 2000 A4, I'm picking it up in a few hours... What is the difference between the 2000 and the 2000.5? Any significant changes? did the 2000.5 get the jump to 170hp? My car is already chipped... and I imagine the extra 20 ponies were gained entirely through the ECU anyhow... And what is the date that defines the car as a 2000, or a 2000.5? I doubt its exactly the the middle of the calendar year...

thanks!

The Clynder head is different as well as some of the mapping, intake size and such. The 2000.5 begins in September.
I am nearly positive that the 2000.5 uses the variable valve timeing system from Audi. I woud have to look at my manual (s) for sure. Try to do a search on the net...

Ehh I don't think there is a 2000.5 year. There is a 1999.5 year and a 2001.5 though. The 170 HP engine began production in the 2001 model year.

Thanks guys! the one thing I noticed is that I do have the ATW engine code... which was ONLY yr 2000. hmm. I know my car only has the 150 base horsepower, but it's chipped to 205. do you still get the 55 (appx) hp gain, on the 170hp motor? to 220ish?
I figured audi got the 20 hp by changing the computer settigns anyhow, so modding it would be less gain. But, that is pure speculation... I love my car though, so thats all that really matters I guess!

I was wondering the same. I'm currently getting my engine replaced and the engine they installed was a 2000drive by wireyetmy car is a 2000fly by wire. The engines are bothATW.They are going to just use the throttle body from my old engine and some other stuff. Am I going to lose any performance? I was also wondering if these rare 2000.5 came with the ko3sport or not. I really need you feedback guys thanks.

there is no such thing called fly by wire, its DBW or NBBW (drive by wire or non drive by wire) there is no split year in 2000, all 2000 cars came with the ATW, the only difference from the aeb is different coil packs, a head with smaller intake ports and a smaller intake mani, no ICM(instead its a map sensor)and a secondary air injection system along with some interior cosmetics. 2001 is an AWM engine code, even smaller ports, and i think thats when vvt started and some of the cars came with ko3 sports.

atw is an off year came with the same bottom end as the AEB (forged pistons) i beleave the AWM didnt have forged..
