Greetings folks... I have a 2000 a4, 1.8t avant quattro 5spd (of course!). Love it love it love it.

Anyway, I read somewhere that side-curtain airbags were an option for the 2000 model year. Looking at the car, I don't think I have em... there's nothing mounted up in the headliner... I just see seat-mounted airbags.

Does anyone have curtain airbags on an A4? Can you confirm what I should be looking for?

If I don't have em, does anyone know if I have a chance of having them installed as an upgrade? The article I read said they originally just a $300 option...

$300 I doubt it on a used car, they were an option on the 1999 "new car" it was a case of installing the airbag ecu and the air bags when new so cost was not a problem but to do it on a used car?? forget it unless you have money to burn consider 2k plus

 

The curtain airbags are in the A Pillar. There should be a small badge on the pillar that says airbag.
The seat mounted airbags are side airbags meant to protect you on side impact, but do not expand high up like the curtains do.

I doubt you can get them installed.

 

the upgrade is there if you can afford it but its a dealer job and has to be logged and will lower the insurance premium and add a few bucks to its value (personally not worth it) but then again whats a life worth, just buy a new car and save money "I don't like or trust air bags" personal opinion only and I have my reasons though im not going to tell

 

Thanks, guys... indeed, then, I don't have curtains. Car's paid off, and I love it... aaaah. Oh, well, guess I'll just have to drive carefully.
