I know they put a different turbo in the 2001 to get the extra 20hp, can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell the difference externally between the two? I have the 2000 1.8 sport and depending on the manufacture date I was wondering if I could have gotten the extra 20hp one otherwise I,m at 150hp. Thanks

 

they didnt put a different turbo on the 2001 than the 2000 from my understanding.

 

Where did they get the 20hp from?

 

the 20 extra horse power comes from a upgraded turbo (ko3 sport) and vvt (variable valve timing). the 2001 stock turbo also boosts at .8 bar where as the previouse years they were at .5 bar. The exterior of the the two cars (2000 to 2001) are the same except the 2001 has a red T next to the 1.8 on the back of the car. this signifies the "sport model" in 2001 with the upgraded power.

Turbo was the same. Programming is a bit different for higher boost.

 

so would a chipped '01 be faster than a chipped '00, or after the chip is the programming gonna be the same on both of them..??

 

same turbo, just different ecu. chips put the two cars to near equal power.
