2001 a4 reliability
hey guys,
i'm all for searching through forums like these, with all the information available, and doingone's own research, but i'm kind of on a short time frame here in a purchase i'm trying to make.
i am thinking of buying a 2001 a4 1.8t quattro automatic with roughly 90,000 miles. i am wondering if there is any big service that needs to be done at this point, or if reliability really takes a turn for the worse, or repairs costs could really escalate at this point.
i know that things vary and that anycar could go without problems or it could have a ton of problems, but i am justlooking for some thoughts here or if there are any major issues that i should be advised of for this model.
the timing belt has been replaced.
thanks!!
oh and price is roughly $8k, condition is excellent, if anyone has thoughts regarding that..

I have a 2001 A4 and have been very happy with the car.
IMO, since the timing belt has been changed, you won't have to worry about high repair cost for a while.
I have had the car for a while and haven't had any major problems with it.

131k miles is pretty high... but don't plan on getting the car and NOT paying for numerous unexpected repairs because you will have to. You will likely need to replace the turbo, possibly clutch parts eventually... just set aside money for it

bought mine @ 82k. non-mod/stupid friend induced repairs/replacements: brake light bulb, front brake pads/rotors, lock vacuum pump, MAF, blown speakers, radio broke but after pulling reset itself, cruise started work sporadically-fuse change fixed that. problems i live w/cause i love the car: air inflow thru doors when sunroof is open, rare (on my car, more frequent for others) sunroof reopening issue, lcd screen failure, and my gas guage freaks below 1/2 tank w/warning light and all.
edit-up to 104k now will have timing belt/etc redone due to lack of faith in previous owner's repairs. slip shod work becoming real apparant.
