2002 audi a4 quatro 1.8t stuck in park
There is a switch attached to the break pedal that has 2 sets of contacts. 1 for the computer and 1 for thebreak lights. Its probably the culprit.
You might be able to clean the contacts. Or it might be beyond repair; if it is they're about $60 if I remember right..
To remove it from the car you need to twist it about 45 degrees (it should twist IN ONE DIRECTION fairly easily) and it will basically fall out.
To test it you will have to force the little plastic piece back the other way 45 degrees with a screwdriver in order for the contractors to make a connection. Be sure to twist it back before trying to reinstall.

luckily car wasn't towed out of parking lot.
a friend of mine was able to unplug the SELENOID located inside the shifter.
every light is now on the dashboard but at least the car can be driven until I replace that solenoid.
thanks for your help
