2003 Avant 1.8T Problem Areas??
I’m going to be test driving a 2003 Avant with the 1.8T engine, automatic, and 18,000 miles tomorrow. Are there any common problem areas I should be keeping an eye out for? Also, the factory tires (Continentals?) look like they have a pretty smooth tread. Does anyone know how they are in the snow?
Thanks,
Randy

Watch out for scratched-up windshields (Audi used soft recycled glass), and if you drive in a northern climate, make sure you break up any ice that forms over your headlight washer nozzles before heading out on the road ... if the nozzles get stuck under the ice, it will blow a fuse, and guess what other important piece of equipment shares the same fuse? Your windshield wipers! This was a nasty shock going 80 mph on a mucky highway, go to wash your windshield so you can see and ... poof! ... no wipers! Brilliant engineering call on that one by Audi ...[:@]
I also needed to have the tailgate latch adjusted, it occaisionally popped open going over speed bumps.
Other than that, don't have any other gripes about the car ... came with Pirelli P6 all seasons, so I can't really comment on the Conti's ... hope this helps ...

Meh conti's are OK but they wear out really fast, and are horridly expensive to replace... dont let the tires keep you from the car, most people with audi's in snow, seem to get a good set of snow's on dedicated winter wheels... factor in AWD and we have cars that are very very capable all year round. Winter tires are more than worth the money.
