2004 B6 Automatic shift knob removal?

Put your hands on the leather part. Feel around the edges of the trim for the 4 tabs that hold the boot in. Pull on them toward the shifter/inside. The whole boot will pop off. You then pull the leather up over the shift **** and you'll see the **** is held on with a clamp. You have to cut that off/bend it off.

It looks like those bently directions are for a B5... So im just wondering if the little button on the side, used to switch gears is needed for a regurlar shift ****.
If you are wondering the **** that im trying to get is this one. I have a 3.0L Automatic with wood grain so this **** will match perfectly. (i also have tan interior)

way to make your 3.0 a POS right there .
Just get a OEM USP air leather shifter. They are nice .
