2006 A4 Audi
I just purchased a 2006 Audi A4 on Friday of last week. This is the fourth Audi A4 we've purchased this year, so we are very familiar with the car. When we picked it up and drove it off the lot, we had a bad vibration at the light. The engine also was so noisy and gutteral, that we turned around and went right back to the dealer. The 2005 models we have do not have that noisy and engine sound.
In any case, they've worked on it and we tried it again and it was worse. We tested two other similar cars and one was noisy (the same) and the other was not. We were going to take the one that wasn't but it was sold. Now we are down to another car which was quieter.
My question is - are you all finding the new 2005.5 or 2006 model to be much noisier than the 2005 or earlier A4? Should some be quieter than others? I'm going in tomorrow to try the car once more. If no better then they'll have to replace it (which they've agreed to do.) But before I push, I guess I really want to know if this model is just naturally noisy or not.
THanks for any input you may provide.

This is the first I've seen of this... I'm considering a 2.0t quattro.
Cross-shopping against the G35. The G has much more power, but that Audi is just dead sexy to me. Probably better on the gas too..
At any rate, keep us posted! I'm interested in seeing the outcome.

never heard of that problem...i think your going to have to wait a few thousand miles in order to get everything working right with the new fit...there put together extremely tight so you have to drive it up to Michigan and hit a few potholes here then your problem will be solved..lol...but i never heard of this problem coming off the lot though..that sux
Hello All! Thanks for all the input.
I spent about a week having them try to repair the car to my satisfaction. The issues as you may remember were :
1) A lot of vibration when standing in gear at a light
2) A gutteral sound with jerky shifting when you started up.
3) A bigger problem which was a chassis vibration when you got up to 65 mph on the highway.
They worked on the car daily and I got the "that's what they all sound like" routine from the mechanics. But after driving several other 2006's which had just arrived, they didn't make the sound and were much quieter and smoother. As I reported the Ocean Blue model was sold and finally on Friday, a new Silver model arrived. I test drove that (after giving mine one more run to see if it got any better) and that was that. The silver one was much better in all respects and it hadn't even been prepped yet.
So they swapped out the cars because my salesman said, " We want you to be happy and each time you get into the red car (even if we get it right) you'll never feel comfortable."
So on Saturday morning, I picked up the new car with more options and they didnt' charge me a dime more. Now that's a great dealer. No wonder, I've purchased over 25 cars from them over the last 20+ years (and four in the last three months.)
Now, I took out the new car today, and I noticed a weird sound when shifting into or out of third. Sounds like a spring snapping. I'll take it in tomorrow and see what they say.
Thanks again...The red car is back on the lot and I sure hope the next person can live with it!
