Default RE: 3" Exhaust

I'm planning on going with a Milltek 2.75" exhaust and if I eventually go with a bigger turbo I will get a 3" cat and ATPs 3" exhaust diverter valve with manual control under the hood. This seems to be the ideal setup. Valve only opens when boost is coming on (when you want it).

I don't want the noise of a 3" exhaust.

Would still like to understand the performance differences between a 2.25" exhaust and 2.75" pre-boost.

Installing it as we speak. I welded everything up last night, now I hafta go to the junkyard and find a wastegate actuator (I only bought the valve, not the t pipe or actuator)

The more that I think about it, I'm thinking I might go with a 3" cat and ATP 3" exhaust diverter valve with a stock exhaust til I feel like upgrading the rest of the exhaust. Seems to make more sense considering the exhaust diverter valve bypasses the exhaust.

I think we all can agree you need some back pressure, and the turbo doesnt do it all, I have a full 2.5 (some mandel bent and some not) and it works out pretty well, theres not gona be that much of a difference.
The turbo absolutely gives the engine all the backpressure it needs. A quote from Kenny Duttweiler in a magazine interview regarding modding a turbo engine;

Without changing anythingon the engine I would definatley start on the exhaust. Backpressure is the enemy of any turbo engine. So anything you can do downstream of the turbo is going to be an improvement. Downpipe, cat and exhaust system should all be looked at. Increasing the intake efficiency should be next. After that, a reasonable bump in boost.
If ya don't know who Kenny Duttweiler is, do a little research.

kenny duttweiler works with domestic V8s with 1000+ HP, not german luxury cars...

I'm planning on running a GIAC chip with the K03.

I do want to get a bigger turbo eventually but I thought the K03 could benefit from a hi-flow 3" cat and the diverter considering some tuners use 2.75" exhaust setups.

But no? Know the size of the stock cat or how much flow is too much for the K03? Thanks.

ForceFed, did you miss this point by TomRitt? We're talking pre-boost.

It did spool earlier but before boost it was a dog, huge loss in power. If I can easily notice it in my seat, its a pretty big loss.

Mr_You; check the quote again, and what point it's directed to. I was addressing the backpressure issues not low end power loss.

So the physics behind a turbo are different between a european engine and a domestic engine? I realize the nature of his projects, but physics are physics. If he's sayin that the biggest enemy of a turbo engine is backpressure, than I believe it applies to our engines as well.
