Hey just wondering what the difference between a 6spd and a 5spd a4 is? I've been looking for a 6spd 2003 a4 1.8t but I might buy one that is 5spd cause it's a good deal. Is there any benefits to having a 6spd vs a 5spd? Thanks kind of a noob question but I never really understood the difference.

 

from my understanding, the first 5 gears are basically identical between 5 and 6-speed tranmissions... the only difference lies with the fact that the 6th gear in a 6-speed provides overdrive

 

no i think the ratio's are completely different, they are shorter and quicker with the 6th just a lil taller than that of the 5th and both the 5 and 6 in respective trannys are overdriven

 

You can drive faster without revving too high

Thanks guys, I'll be looking for a 6spd but may just have to go with this 5spd I found cause it seems like a good deal.. what do ya guys think? Kind of a lot of miles but I need to find a decent B6 for around 15k.
