Default 96 2.8 quattro auto opinions and info needed

I have a 1996 audi A4 quattro w/2.8 auto. I have blown headgaskets and will most likely just replace the engine since it has 184000 miles and I do not know the history. I was wondering what were the differances between 98+ 2.8 and the previous? Could I use a new 2.8? What would be necessary to change?I intend to install a turbo considering T3/T4 but Im not sure what the 2.8 or the trans can take for boost or if we should use a differant size turbo? Ive heard no more than 300hp possible without smoking the trans. which 300 is respectable I dont want to make trans swaps a habbit. Our intention though is to produce a kit for the 2.8. Please share your thoughts. Thanks Paul

well this is very promising. a company looking to produce a turbo for the 2.8. the 2.8 guys are gona joygasm

the difference between the 98+ and the pre-98 is the valves. pre 98 is the 12v which is practically un-moddable. 98+ is the 30v which has some potential for modding. there have been a couple one-off turbo setups on a 30v but they have all only run ~8psi and gotten similar results as the G2 supercharger.

sorry im not more help, im sure some other guys will chime in with more info on the swap. good luck

Dear Paul,
I can only say that you should contact this man, before I give the info here is my story, Short and sour. My 1999 benz was stolden and I had just paid it off 7 months ago, I didnt want a high car payment, went to a car lot to see a honda and FEEL in LOVE with the 1996 A4 Audi Quattro. I got the whole B.S spill on this that and the other. I did all the right things had it checked out by a car repair place, I have had the car for 39days and now it sits in the repair shop. Not sure where you are but contact this man and he will help you. NOT HOSE YOU. I think(LOL). I know I have been of no help however, This man can be Yes he is a Audi consultant, not a sales men. jgarcia@niello.com. I hope he can help you as he has me.
Sincerly, Candice

that is un-true. the 12v is very much modable. They make cam's and internals for the motor, however many people, including myself, can't justify the cost for the gains. in fact, stasis uses a 12v in one of there race cars, and they know what they're doing

and to the OP:
If you were to go with a 30v 2.8, you would have to change out your ECU and re-wire some stuff i believe.

Yea lose that car, unless u can find a junkyard or something to get a motor and then what?Buy a used motor thats probly ragged out and will blow head gasket like the last one??? Pick up a 98 or above ride,1.8T and upgrade it-otherwise who knows what might go wrong trying to throw a turbo on the big beast .2.8 If u succesfully get that turbo on let me know so I can get one.....I just think its easier and cheaper tograb a 1.8t and beef-roid it up but if u are developing a turbo 4 the 2.8 more power to u and the 2.8 people

A referbished engine from audi is only 2500 i think, so just by the same engine that you already had and put the hours in , but at that point just keep it relitavely stock and the car will run forever. Remember its not just the engine that racks up the miles, buy a 2000 and up a4 and be happy with it.

I really appreciate everyones response, thoughts and opinions they are all great please continue with responses. We fully intend to keep the car and the reason for doing the 2.8 is because we cant find anything for it and because konzept audi is so new we need something to stand out for. Besides why not we get t3/t4s by the pallet and its a company car intended to show off our products cant just slap stuff on, even if we can only bump it up 50-80hp It will still be fun to drive. We thought about tearing it down but have not found any internals yet a4_2.8tuner would you happen to have a link to that company? does anyone know what the compression is on these motors?

i looked over your site and it looked very interesting and very promising for such a new site. What really spiked my interest is that hydrogen fuel system. As for the compression ratio, they're both at 10.3:1

really? i thought motodyne was the only company putting stuff out for the 12v, but they are just a scam. don't the 30v produce more power?
