Default 96 a4 engine light
is the 96 A4 check Engine Light a Big Exclimation point? ( ) around it?

nope. that's ur ESP. the check engine light in our cars actually says check engine in yellow. it's like on the speedo.

ESP? Not on a 96 to my knowledge. Is the light red or yellow? If its red you might be low on brake fluid. I have my manual at home - I can go check it out tonight for you.
