Default 97' A4 Engine Swap

Ive read previous post of pros and cons ofengine swaps, but im not too concerend about the cost...Does anyone know a company i can check out that makes larger engines or even a suitable substitute for my 2.8 12v?? One company I checked with in CA said about $5,500 just for a fully rebuilt stock, but im more into bigger and better.

so you want to buy a bigger 2.8? I dont think anyone makes a performance 2.8 i do think however you can get a crate 1.8t somewhere for 5k or build a kick 1.8t for that price..

Not worth it. Just buy another car, it wont cost you much more than the engine swap. And you can get a 30v or a 1.8t instead, so you'll have more power. There's just not much that can be done with a 12v, and there aren't really any other engines that will fit well into your front clip.

Thanks for the advise. Ive decided to go ahead and buy another car. Its just so hard to get rid of it if u know what I mean..I think i just wanted to make it a project and surprise the people at that stop light that try to think they can beat the "sluggish" 2.8 lol. I got about 140,000 miles right now and still running strong but i know the end of life is coming soon so I'll start looking for another choice.

Or you can get the motor you want (2.8 30V for example used off ebay) Then sell your 12V used on ebay and come out to about 500 bucks total cost for a DIY job.

Yeah I would say get a crate 1.8 from 2001 up so you have the larger HP and build it up.

Yeah, you should have another 60k plus, unless there are major internal issues that you are aware of. Otherwise, tune it up and do another t-belt at 160k, you should be good to go.

Yea i changed the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, idler, accessory belt, crank seal, and thermostat at 130,000. Oil changes are frequent. Im sure at that mileage engine wear is inevitable. While the car is running and when the oil cap is off there's a lot of blow by gases coming out which is why i came to the conclusion that its almost time for the end. Ive considered a rebuild but wanted more.It only makes sense to buysomethingelse because for the price of a swap I could have something nice and fast. I just love the body style of my A4 and already dumped some cash in it..[/align]
