98 A4 1.8T start up problem
Ok Friday I got off work headed to my car i started it up and threw me a CEL and started idling really roughly. I managed to make it to schucks where i VAG-COM'd it and it gave me code P0302 misfire cylinder #2. On saturday Redgoat came over and ran VAG-COM again and threw out the same codes, I went out and bought new NGK spark plugs BKR6EIX completed the installation fired up the car and still had the same outcome idling rough. I have also done some research and found that it could be my Coil Packs. So this morning (sunday) I decided to switch around the coil packs and see if my car would start rough once again and this time the car starts and turns but it will not fire up, smelled alot of gas and i even took out the spark plugs cleaned them and put everything back in place I am still stumped!!

the code was Random Misfire on Cylinder 2.. does the random part make any difference? What hoses do you suggest he looks at first to check for a vac leak
and I wonder if he is even getting spark..?

I did some more testing it turns out my coils aren't shot and the connector on on cylinder 2 has no voltage??? Any cause of this? Spark plugs work all the coils work but when i connect the coil to #2 there's no voltage? Is it my ECU? or ICM?
i had a similar run in.
turns out it was the MAS Sensor at the top of the box, it was either clogged or the connectors were going bad.
so i basically cleaned it and the connectors too and pluged it back in and the car was running perfectly. took a
while for the check engine light to turn off, but that's what i did.
