Default 99.5+ B5 headlights on a 98.5 B5

Hey guys. Don't know if this has been asked before or not, but can I take 99.5+ headlight and swap them straight across for my 2 pieces on my 98.5? Is the wiring the same? I would love to go Valeo but cost is a bit of an issue. I also don't want to cut my hood/fender and I don't really want to deal with the wiring. I have a friend that can get me brand new headlights from Audi CHEAP (he works at a dealership) so I'm thinking this could be a good option for me to go with and just do the clear corner conversion myself. Thanks.

Well, he's not sure yet. He's chilling with me this weekend at my place but he said he'd look when he goes back to work on Monday. I was wondering if I was going to have to cut the fenders, the 99.5's look bigger and they also look just like Valeo's but with the orange corner piece. Maybe if the wiring was close to the same I would do it, I've got a couple friends back home that do body work and I could have them hook me up, gonna paint my lowers I'm at it.

search the forums!

just because i'm nice.....yes you will have to trim the fender, but it minimal, and it's nothing that you see once the headlight is on. the headlights are the same size, but there is a small lip on the fender that separates the headlight from the corner on the two-piece headlights. the 99.5+ headlights look like valeos because they are. the valeos that you see on lltek, ecstuning, etc are "e-codes" (e for european), they have a slightly better light output and no amber corner. the wiring is also slightly different. you have two options, you can buy the harnesses from ecs for 50 bucks, or you can modify the new headlights using a couple parts from your old headlights.

Okay so here's my concern, when you cut the fenders, is there a lip that you're removing from the fender? If so, without this lip for the stock headlights to sit up against, will they move around at all? I'm sure cutting it isn't the difficult part, but getting everything to fit nicely is the key, or am I making this out to be more complicated than it is? I think if I was to do it, I'd just buy the stupid harness from ECS and get it over with.

i bought the wire harness, but if i would've known about using parts from the old headlights, i would've gone that route. the wire harness from ecs isn't a plug, you still have to splice wires together, so it's probably the same thing either way (except that one way is free, the other is 50 bucks)...as far as removing that lip on the fender, it will make it so that old style headlights won't fit as snug, but the corner piece clips onto the headlight, not the fender, so you could go back to the old style if you really had to.
