99 exhaust system

hey guys, i had a quick question. i have a 99 2.8 quattro, and where the y-pipe splits i noticed a huge, what im thinking to be, secondary muffler. has anyone ever cut that out and just spliced ina straight through pipe? would this be a good idea to get a louder, more agressive sound?

i dont know the 2.8's exhaust but if its anything like the 1.8T than what your talking about is the resonator. and ya lots of people (me included) have taken that out and replaced it with a straight pipe. it'll make it a bit louder.

Mine however got a lot louder.
