Default 99 Quarto, CEL.. Newbie

I understand I should have my ECU scanned for possible leads. But just a quick question.

Just picked up a 99 A4 quarto from a dealer. The CEL came on yesterday. I am sitting here at work and hear the alarm going off with no cause. Is it possble that there is an electric problem and this would make the CEL come on???

Possible that I have Advance Auto Parts scan my ECU and would the given code indicate that an electrical problem is causing the CEL?

Were your windows down with the alarm armed/windows locked? There is a motion sensor inside that is easily set off by the wind. The CEL is not related to that. Get your ecu scanned for that one. There is a button on the bottom of the drivers sidecenter pillar that will disable the motion sensor if you press it. Or, with vag com, you can adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensor so it still works, but isnt set off by the wind. Vag Com is Audi/vw specific diagnostic software for your computer/laptop.

Cool. A CEL isnt goingallow you take advantage ofthe lemon law though. You mean you havea regular waranty right? The lemon law isnt a type of waranty.

yeah we will resolve your problem before the dealer can. Although, if its something that is to be replaced under your waranty, and you dont want to pay for it, they will want to diagnose it anyway. But at least youll have a good idea whats going on before you take it in.
