Default This or That...

Hey whats up guys? I know this has probably been asked on here a million times, but for some reason the search function isnt working for me. well Im interested in buying a 98+ Audi A4. I have read many articles on both motors the 1.8T and the 30v 2.8v6 and just thought i would ask y'all which is better? I have owned a turboed car before (97 eclipse GSX) and loved the instant power, but i also have driven a 30v 2.8 and it felt pretty good. So my question is, do you think i should go with the 1.8T or the 2.8v6. Im not planning on moding it, maybe a nice sounding exhaust and possibly a chip but reall thats all i intend on doing to the car. So what do you think would be the best for my situation? Also for the Quattro guys out there, how do you rate the AWD system, my eclipse was AWD and i really enjoyed it, is there any Audi downfall to their AWD system? Thanks guys and any info is really appreciated. P.S. I would have searched for this but like i said my search feature is not allowing me too.

Matt

the AWD is great!!!!!!!!! if you chip the 1.8t you will see a MUCH LARGER gain than chipping the 2.8. its all about the turbo, and since the 2.8 doesnt have one gains are small.

if you want to do some serious modding = 1.8t

if you just want a good relyable moter= 2.8 (not to say the 1.8t is not relyable by any means).

so it all depends on what you plan on doing with your car.

get the 2.8 if ur not planning on modding, its faster stock, more reliable, and has nice other stuff like leather seats. the only downfall of quatro is the weight

I haven't driven a 1.8T, but I love my 2.8. Power rolls on smooth for a stock car.

Get a 1.8t dude. Get it, chip it, love it more than you could ever love a 2.8. The only thing that is not reliable on the 1.8t motor is the timing belt tensioner, and there was a revision on the coil packs... Both of which have most likely been replaced on a car with over 60-70k miles. The 2.8 compares in NO WAY to the GSX (I have driven both)... The GSX feels more like a chipped 1.8t in comparison.

Yes, 1.8t's are slow as hell stock. I'd still tell you to buy one over a 2.8 though.

I was having second thoughts, then remembered my good ole 12V is reliable as hell and it's better I kept my power a little lower with my history.

In your situation it sounds to me like you should go for the 2.8 quattro, unless you want to chip it. 2.8 is more luxurious and reliable with no lag like the 1.8t
