oil screen? you mean the oil filter?

Sure - if you don't change it or use a cheap filter it could clog. Not enough oil gets to the turbo and you cook the turbo because it does not get lubricated and cooled.

Never happened to me but it can. The oil return lines from the turbo can also plug up (especially on an older A4 - the lines were updated in 99 I think) if you did not observe correct cool down procedures. Basically you run the car hard, then turn it off and go inside. Meanwhile your turbo is red hot, cooking the stagnant oil in the line, hardening it and clogging the lines after repeated instances of this. Now that has happened to quite a few people.

I was told it was on oil screen. Not the oil filter. The oil filterdoes get replaced every 3k miles.

I have an 01 A4 1.8T with 97k miles. I drive a lot. Ether way its costing me 1600 to repair.

Oh - Thats the "oil pickup screen"

Thats in your oil pan. If that is the problem, its good that you discovered it because it could destroy your engine if that thing totally blocked up.

Is this $1600 to repair turbo damage or to replace/clean the oil screen??? Do you have damage already or is this a preventative maintenance thing? If your oil light is coming on intermittently, sometimes an oil detergent will help clean the oil screen.

You know you can change/clean the oil pickup screen youself too - its very simple (albeit messy). Do an oil drain - remove the oil pan, clean the screen... simple as it looks.

I just added some to my engine on my last oil change - helps lessen lifter noise also. I will probably do it every spring.

'Justice Bros' is good stuff. You can get it as ECStuning.com

hey while you're at it you should have upgraded your turbo. Spending all that money, might as well get some more horsies out of it.

Upgraded turbo means upgraded software too, and injectors, fpr, etc. Gets expensive - half that $1600 is probably labor to have them install the turbo. A K04 kit costs $1600 by itself. Still, if you have the cash on hand its an opportune time to do it.

I'm just bitter cuz I didn't have the money when my turbo went.
