I'm gonna be a new owner of a 2003 A4 b6 1.8t awd. I don't know much about euro cars but I've always liked them, especially this Audi. My concern is that this particular car vibrates a lot during idle; it feels almost like I'm getting a massage. I currently own a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I know it doesn't vibrate as much as this Audi. What could this mean? And how would I remedy this annoying thing? I'm not sure if I made the right decision buying this car now b/c of this vibration....I'd appreciate anyone's solution or opinion, thanks.

 

A rough idle will often mean some sort of misfire, is your CEL/MIL on? If so I would guess that's the case and a quick scan of the engine will give you the codes you need to help determine so.

 

Actually mine did that and then I took it to the dealer ... i was charged $98.00 - they cleaned the throttle body and that fixed the problem.

 

i have the same year and problem, i noticed that my accessory belt tentioner is "bouncing" when at idle, think i need to tighten it up, if it's posible, i don't recal, might want to check that on you car also.

 

May also want to try and switch out a new coil pack for all 4 cylinders and see if that helps check the plugs to see if they are fouled, general maintence stuff easy peasy.

 

yeah i had a similar problem and it was the coil pack, but the car was bouncing and running rough while driving too...not just at idle.

 

My 03 does the same thing sometimes.Turns the A4 intoa giant black vibrator.

 

i notice this in my car as well - how did they clean the throttle body?

 

At vdub and I think audi does the same we use some BG cleaners that is injected into the intake at idle. Smokes like hell while doing it but works great

 

Another thing you should do is check if your engine mounts are in good condition. If the rubbers are worn your car will vibrate at idle especially when the AC is on
