if the dealer doesnt cover it buy the clutch online and take it to a local shop they'll do it for under 2000, a clutch replacement is a clutch replacement no big deal for them...dealers take way tooo much money....i had my clutch replaced with new axles and towing (m clutch was way too old 140k) for 1600...but i hope they cover it.

18T,
You seem to be avoiding the questions IMHO. I understand fully the wear and tear policy.

My questions are:
* Is it possible the clutch disc friction material separated from one side of the disc prematurely?
* Should the clutch disc friction material wear out on both sides of the disc evenly?

I wasn't avoiding the questions. Its entirely possible that the clutch may have been defective. After all its a mechanical part just like anything else that can be defective from a factory. Its bout to happen from time to time. That still doesnt change the outcome though. However it might get you scoring points with the GM's. (be super nice)

Meet with the GM and tell us how it goes. There are things like "goodwill" that you might get lucky with.

im not even going to read the above ( who fitted it and what is the warranty ) did it fail because of abuse? and on this the system needs to be analyzed and if you fail you pay

Thanks 18T. The GM is setting up a meeting to take a look at the old clutch parts hopefully this week. I'll let you know what happens.

It's just the way the friction material is completely off on one side and not the other is strange. Several mechanics I showed it to thought is was a defective disc...we'll see

18t,

I just found this on the LUK site ( the company that is the supplier to Audi for its clutch parts)

Uneven Friction Material Wear
Cause:
Riding the clutch, defective release system, improper release system adjustment, use of clutch components unsuited for the torque of a modified engine.

I KNOW there was no riding of the clutch...perhaps improper release system/adjustment??
