im a nissan guy/ technician. i love the audi's and they way they drive. i want to get one, but what do i need to know before buying an A4 1.8t? timing belt/ maintenance? recalls? engine/turbo problems? best year? major repairs after 100k?

im not modding the a4, thats what the nissans for. so, sounds liketiming belt, suspension and oil slugecan be an issue. those are the things to look out for? im looking for down the road problems. oil leaks, main bearing failure, turbo rebuild...

turbo will be fine
t belt, water pump tensioner
control arms
mounts
and just over all maintence, if someone hasnt taken care of it, its not going to last

As well as the cv joints. They are notorious for going bad on b5's. Dont let this deter you, its a very simple fix.

also if its a B6; there have been problems with ignition coils. I've replace all of my 3 times since 2003!

then you need to regap your plugs or get the new versions from ecs or purems. i've never had to replace 1
