So i have had my 98 A4 with th 1.8 for about a month and the first week of driving it would move like it should getting up to red line in first gear before I ever expected. Now it just feels SLOW its been the worst I cant even barely feel the turbo kick in now maybe some of you can give me a hand with this im not getting an engine light and i havent pulled codes yet. I think that it might be one of these. Any feedback is much appreciated.

was thinking maybe it was
-plugs and wires
-waist gate problem
-bad turbo seal

 

Maybe wastegate (DV), maybe coolant sensor, maybe plugs, but practically anything should be throwing a code.

 

Make sure you get the right octane gas. 87 will not make much power.

 

It could be the gas issue ...but also the diverter valve might also be wearing out after all these years they weren't made that well...

 

how did u get get 87 oct he didnt mention wut gas he uses but it might be the DV
are u running any performance chips

yeah as long as you dont go to red line and sit there then its not going to hurt anything just as long as you dont redline your car every gear all the time. And i found out what was wrong my waistgate broke at the bar where it goes to the throttle. Guess im buying a new waistgate.

Should i go aftermarket or stock and are these hard to install?

 

and yeah i dont buy anything under 91 octaine

 

You don't track or race much do you, and if you do, i cant imagine you win much. I can only think of what my 1/4 shifting at 4k.
