By the way, i didnt get reimbursed the 60% until a year after I had everything repaired. I cant believe 2KA4 you only got 10%, thats a joke... i would be more pissed after they told that to me!!!
Yeah I was Royally pissed when I heard that, and it wasnt even AOA that gave 10% it was the Santa Rosa Audi dealership. The GM was on my side and he gave me the 10% because he felt bad he couldnt help more.

It sucks becsase Audi is WELL AWARE of their faulty timing belt system and still wont cover S*IT. They also revised the service manuals. This is the maintenance schedule I was going by and thats why i waited so long to do it. I also said that I had an appt to get it fixed 6k before the SCHEDULED timing belt change. If you cant go by the service manual provided by the factory than what can you go by?

if I knew when my belt was to break regardless of mileage ( which is absolutely ludicrous ) I could predict the end of the world

As everyone now knows the problem is not in the belt but in the tensioner. I bought my car with 93k on it and the used car dealer had a mechanic who had changed the belt (saw the new belt) but who did not change the tensioners (and at that time I didn't know).

Took the car to the dealer for tie rod recall (6k later) and they told me that the timing belt needs replacing(???) I told them that it was just replaced???? what do you mean??? the answer was OH it was just that your interval was coming up and we were just reminding you. ASSH- - ES. Said nothing about the tensioners etc. , and of course they were going to charge for redoing the beltaround $1k

Went my merry way and at 123k pop goes the weasel. New head rebuilt-only$1700 since I did the work. Nice, at least now I have a new head with surrounding parts. Was going to call audi but from reading various posts it would seem that I would be wasting my time and getting stressed.

The bottom line is that AUDI DOES NOT WANT TO ADMIT THATTHE TENSIONER IS DEFECTIVE!!

why? because it will cost them.

Will I buy another audi? Even though I love the car, NO. Simply because of the way they handled the communications with the timing belt issue.

Wow, in the same boat as Karageorge2, i bought mine with 76k a 2002 3.0 a4 the belt looks really new not even dirty but what i dont know is the conditon of the tensioner and pulley. The place i bought it from replaced alot of the stuff on the car brakes oil; etc but i dont have an actual list of what they did. is there any warning sign taht the tensioner is gonna sh*t the bed. Noises lose of power etc. i cant afford to rebuild a head and i was unaware these engines are interference motors. This could get interesting in the future, i have a warrant taht i bought for the car, im hoping taht if anythign happens that i can at least get it to cover most if not all of the damage.

Hey I just bought a 98' A4 Quattro, not sure if the timing belt has been replaced, it has kind of high miles at 125k would you say that it has been replaced at that mileage

I'd say replace the TB soon - every 60-70k is the best bet. I have 140k and I just did mine for the second time. zrwhat is a member here and she had her TB break in the the hight 40k's. Its a good reason to get an audi with an extended warranty.

I did mine @ 93k. Theservice interval i read recommended 120k but i didn't want to wait that long. Going to do it again at 150k.

I noticed when i had it in for service prior to the TB job, they did the JE recall notice; which i'm assuming is the same as the JK inspectionnotice as stated earlier?
