not for audi's.. thats odd.. I always thought the higher the independance the lower the sound quality..

MB Quart, Polk Audio, Boston Acoustics all sell a 3/4" tweeter that should fit in the stock locations without much (if any) modification needed. You might have a problem with a 1" tweeter in the B5 A4's (I don't know about the B6 and B7 cars, I've not had a chance to take one apart yet.

 

I've taken all my door panels off tons of times, to tinker with speakers, windows, whatever. a couple screws and slide it upwards. As for the speaker swap though, I don't know. Just left mine stock. Good luck.
