btw how can they rate dependablity on a 2006 car? and cadilac scored higher than acura...yea....my friend still cant get his 2004 cady to pass inspection! i know jd power is a good source but....are u kidding me?!!?!

 

that JD Power report is for 2006 model year cars in INITIAL quality. based in issues reported by original new car customers in the first 90 (i think) days of ownership. not long term quality.

i don't think audi has ANYTHING on saab as far as quality goes. it seems both cars from a used car standpoint - 3-5 years old - have about the same amount of problems. i've had several issues with my 2007 and i'm not happy about the initial quality one bit. based on the first 30 days of ownership, my audi from only a quality standpoint is the worst car i've ever owned. even more so than my previous land rover, which you'll notice ranked at the bottom in 2006.

but the reason why i'm keeping it is because the other factors make it tolerable: great driving, beautiful interior, practical.

saab is about value. yes, you don't get as nice an interior but you do get other factors, especially when you're shopping for a used saab. as a new car, i'd take an audi over it, but as a used car value, you just can't beat the value a saab provides. so it boils down to, are you willing to pay a bit more for a nicer interior in the A4? also, how much does awd mean to you.

 

I'm thinking switching my A4 with Saab 9-5, if it continues failing on my more and more (1995 is starting to show up).

I'd been driving Saab 9-5 (2000) 2.9? (don't remember exactly) automatic, turbo sometimes and I simply loved it. A lot more space, awsome acceleration (comparing to 1.8 on Audi ), sticking better even on snowy road (even with the same brand tires). However I seem to find myself hating Saab's wooden trim interior, plus you get its info screen partly blanked out in extreme low temperatures.

 

I went to a dealership ready to buy the Saab 9-5 and left with an Audi A6. The reason is that the Saab 9-5 Aero just has way too much HP to be supported by it's FWD. As a test, put the car into 2nd gear and take a left turn at around 40, punch it as hard as you can. Now, when you're floating to the heavenlies wondering how a $40K car can understeer that badly and musing that all you could see to the left or right was smoke from your front tires, you'll have wished you got RWD or AWD.

I like the seats better in the A6,the A6 was still very quite going down the road, it just felt more solid.

By the way, I'm not alone in calling the 9-5 aero too much power for a FWD drive. One of the Saab engineers himself stated that anything over 200HP was too much for FWD. And he was right.
