I have an audi a4 avant quattro. I was just driving and came to a stop sign and the car stopped. I tried starting it wouldn't start again. I changed the control module but still no power coming out. It does crank well. All lights and power comes on and it does crank but no power is going into the ignition. does anyone knows why? please help.

 

could be the icm on top of the air box. Any check engine light and what noises. What motor. Because it could also be a broken timing belt

 

it's a 1999 Audi a4 avant, 1.8L turbo, manual. i checked the timing belt and it seems to be fine. I don't see any check engine light on. absolutely nothing. It just cranks .

 

you say the timing belt seems to be ok? check if the cam is turning and the belt turning when you crank it, could be some stripped teeth on the cam belt which means the belt will not be turning

 

Spark, fuel, air, timing.

Is there spark at the spark plugs?

Is there fuel being delivered?

My guess is that the timing belt tensioner went and your belt skipped some teeth.

How many miles since the timing belt was changed?

 

I think it might be my timing belt because I opened it and did not see the belt turn when the car is cranked. also the belt seems a little loose. Guess I have to remove the whole front panel to check it out. thanks for the advice.

 

Do not attempt to start your car. This is an interference engine, which means that the pistons can hit the valves if the timing belt has slipped.

Take it to a mechanic who deals with german cars/ VW/Audi.

 

not a nice thing to happen at any time but you might be lucky because its will be the crank where the teeth have broke which means the top end stopped dead and in many cases no valves were hit so it would be beast to fit a new belt and do a compression test to confirm if the valves were hit, you never know you might just be a lucky sod and save a bunch on the repair
that's what should be done first before stripping the top end

 

I was able to take the belt out. Since belt is out, I have a question, how do I align the top camshaft with the crankshaft? can someone help me?

 

age of car and engine size could help?
