Default About to purchase an A4

Hey guys,

This is my first post on the boards. I just wanted to ask a question about buying an A4 1.8t Quattro.

There is a German car dealer in town an they have an A4 with plenty mods, Automatic. It is the owners car and he does not need it anymore. I have been reading alot about the problems on these cars at right after the 50k warrenty, and it has hesitated me from purchasing this car. But this engine in the car they are selling is brand new. They have just replaced it. The car total has about 86k miles. The engine I believe has about 1000 miles or less. What do you guys think? Is this ok to purchase or am I still going to be dealing with a ton of maintance? What should I look for when going to look at the car???

Thanks guys.

You should look into the reason for the engine swap... If the motor actually died at such low mileage, I'd suspect that the previous owner or whoever abused the hell out of it... First step I would take is carfax.... while it's not totally dependable, it's a good place to start. My main concern would be the suspension on a car like that (control arms, tie rod ends) which would cost around $1500 to do (all ctrl arms + tie rod ends) Good luck

Thats the car I am going to go look at today. The guy I talked to said the car is running about 15-17 psi. What do you guys think? the 100,000 "warrenty" they mention is just for maintance. Where would I buy an aftermarket warenty from?

well with the mods its deff worth it but u need to find out what turbo, what program, is the trans new??? stock tip trans is not very strong to be holding that much power. what upgrades are on the trans? try to get a list of all work that is done to car. from reading the info the seller provided, it dosent seem like he knows very much about the car.

True he doesn't know what hes talking to, which is why I am going to talk to the owner, who built the car. The transmission he said is stock. He said that the car tranny cannot "keep up" with the turbo in drive, and it lags. He said If you floor it, make sure you are manually changing the gears. I scratched my head. That sounds like a torque converter problem maybe.

its a certified pre owned so Im sure he wont have too many issues. if you go there ask the dealer if they offer one. a little over priced IMO
