Could be something as simple as a wheel speed sensor dirty or loose. Or as in my case, the ABS control module. Go to the stealership or someone with a VAGCOM and run the fault codes. Like I said to another guy 2 threads ago, do a search to find alot of info on this.

On older ones it is. Mine has the same problem. Over time moisture builds in the ABS module and it goes bad. A new one from the dealer is over $1k. Apparentyl there's a company that rebuilds them for $250 in the midwest and gives instructions on how to take remove and install it. It was posted not too long ago.

I had this same problem, took it to an Audi mechanic...not the dealership. Simple problem that I am so lucky to have got checked out. The wheel was loose, only 3 out of 5 screws holding it in place. Thank you sensor light! Otherwise, I might've lost a wheel and my life!

Read the ABS CU with a VAGcom. If there is no communication, check power to the control unit (two large pins in connector, 12V each). If you have power to the CU, check resistance from pin 21 on the ABS connector to Pin 21 on the green instrument cluster connector (about 25M ohms if I recall correctly). If that passes, check the resistance from pin 11 on the ABS connector to the green wire in the OBD2 connector (the K line, about .5 ohms). If that passes, it's very likely the control unit.

In the ABS control unit, there is a wire that looses it's soldered connection to the control unit and the fault is usually "no communication" or the VAGcom wont even open the ABS CU.

If you don't want to try this yourself, I have access to a laser welder. I have had success repairing this before. PM me if you have questions or simply want me to do it!

That is definately the right way to do the diagnostics, but in our shop we have never found the no communications error to be anything but the ABS control module. We use bba-reman to do our repairs. $139
