Default acceleration difference

Does anyone know of a difference between the '03 and '04 1.8T engines that would account for a big difference in acceleration off the line? I have a '03 Avant and my girlfriend has an '04, both are manual. The only obvious differences are the '03 is an Avant w/50k and a 5spd, while the '04 is a sedan with 10k and a 6spd. There is an obvious lag in the '03 when reving off the line. The '04 is instant throttle. My dealer says the only possible difference is software load in the ECM or possibly carbon on the '03 which has more miles.

If it is the software, is there any cure?

regards,
tony

If its a software issue it could be changed with a VAG diagnostic tool, but be very careful as putting the incorrect information into your ECU usually does more harm than good.

What Chip would you recommend? I'm familiar with some of what the chip can do, but this is my first jump into the world of Audi performance. I'm used to the analog world of performance...mostly with 2002tii's.

Is the 04 chipped?

What revs are you launching at? should be at least 3k if your trying to go fast, otherwise it will lag.

The 6 speed gearbox maybe helps also, and you may be heavier as well (usually verts are heavier because they need to be re-inforced because they have no solid roof).

Try driving the 04, and have your girl drive the avant. If she still smokes you, we'll know where the problem is.

^^^^ oh no you went there lol. I was wondering about the 6 speed gear box myself, not quite apples to apples there.

1st off: avant = heavier than the sedan
2nd off: shorter gearing of the 6spd will increase accelleration

the 04 will be faster..

i was just refining your text, never heard of the term "vert" before.

sometimes people understand smaller sentances!
