Adding amp to Bose

Adding amp to Bose
I have a 2005 1.8t with the Bose system. I'm debating adding an amp to my stock bose door speakers but was curious if anyone had done it and kept the stock sub. I'm worried about the highs drowning out all of the bass and sounding shitty. By the way I'm trying to keep it as stock looking as possible so adding a sub would be pretty much out of the question. Only other option would be to add an amp to the stock sub but I'm not sure if that's possible and what the stock sub is rated at.[/align]

I wouldn't be adding an amp to the stock system since the factory most likely designed it for its "safe" operation. Plus Bose has some funky power ratings that would be a pain to match. There are custom setups for adding an aftermarket sub that keeps it looking clean.

Adding an amp to the door speakers is perfectly fine as long as you get an amp to match the impedence ratings of the speakers. I plan on putting in a jl 300/4 which is rated between 1.5 and 8 ohms. The door speakers are 2 ohms so it should be fine.

I pulled one of my speakers out and checked it and it was 2 ohm while the tweeter was 4 ohms. If other models have 3 ohm door speakers, the JL slash series amps will stillpush them fine.
So noone has done this before without adding an aftermarket sub?

Yeah, I want to add an amp to run the stock speakers. I've heard from several people that the Bose speakers sound amazing with some more power pushing them and personally the only aftermarket speakers I would put in are a nice set of components but don't have the money for all of that right now. So why "WTF"?

We have a saying in the mobile electronics industry:
"No highs, no lows- must be Bose!"
Bose is a good sounding speaker at low volumes and low power- that's why they specialize in clock radios and audio for auto manufactures. You certainly can put an amp on those speakers to make them sound better, but if you're a loud listener you'll eventually blow them up... hopefully you'll have saved up enough money by that time to buy some good speakers. Just have fun making them fit when you do.

I can absolutely relate to not wanting a sub installation to mess with the stock appearance and usability of the car. The Bose system definitely needs help with the lows, though, and there is a happy medium that looks good and doesn't get in the way:
