even though the engine is the same, meaning 1.8t , there seems to be more than one engine type from 96-01 for the legendary A4. i'm in the market for an A4 and i have spent ENDLESS HOURS of searching millions and millions of websites but i can't seem to find one that has every engine by code (ex. the AEB engine or the AWT engine or the APU engine) Basically i want to find a comparisan for all the engines so that way i will know which one is the right one to buy?something with compression ratio's-what kind of turbo's-which intake manifold was bigger- that kinda stuff. I havent found it on ANYBODY'S forum's .Any help will be greatly appreciated. thanx[sm=dontgetit.gif]

Look here:
Dont pay attention to the 2.7-thats just for S4's

97-99.5 years are NDBW and best for tuning for the 1.8t. Face lift in 99.5 and ndbw is most desireable if you are moding.(AEB engine code)
00+ are DBW

Depends on what i want to do.....................?
i wanna know excactly what the compression ratio is. i wanna know which engine had bigger intake ports.i wanna know which turbo the engine came with.
i need a comparison chart for all the engines -by-code- listing all these things.it has to be somewhere. i have looked forever and it doesnt seem to be posted on any sites. not under any 1.8t forums or sticky's.i think that if modders knew this information then they would know excactly which engine suits them. what do u think?

This will help a little: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothrea...35912#29935912
When someone asks what you want to do with it, it's not a stupid question. The nDBW cars are less tempermental than the DBW cars. Mainly because there's less controls. If the ECU doesn't like what it's seeing in a DBW car, it can (1) close the throttle body, (2) open the diverter valve, or (3) open the wastegate, to name a few. The nDBW cars don't have a MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor, so boosting high isn't going to send you into limp. (However, lots of misfires may.) If you are going to use a stand-alone ignition system, then nDBW cars may be easier. Plus, GIAC has an excellent and matured program for the AEB, but only "recently" for the AWM engine.
Newer isn't always better!

THANX alot for all the help. just one more dilemma ----------------in '99 it sez it the A4 uses the AEB engine and in 2000 it uses the ATW. does anybody know for a fact if the 1999 and the 1999.5 have this AEB engine or did it turn into a ATW for 1999.5 ??????????????????[sm=groupwave.gif][sm=massbounce.gif]
