airbox mod help
Actually, it was a little wierd also, but i figured it out.
here it is:
1) Open hood, take off turbo inlet hose and the small hose to thr left of it
2) Take off cover for airbox (just pulls off) and take off resonator with 2 screws on the front of it (the pipe going from the airbox to your grill)
3) take off rubber gasket on top of box, (takes a little persuading). Under that, you will find a plug. DONT try and pull it out. Take a small flathead screwdriver and stick it inside the slot on the top. wiggle it, and you will hear a click. then you can easily pull it off.
4) Remove 4 screws on youe heatshield (metal plate to thr right of the airbox between it and thr turbo/engine) @ on top are easy, but 2 on bottom are a little tricky. Suggestion, losten the 2 on top, but dont take off, then take a magnet that is on a string and stick it to the heat shield right below the bottom screw you are attacking. then unscrew the screw, while trying not to drop it, and if you do, hope you catch it with the magnet. if not, it will be on your front air thingy under the car (the black plastic thing that directs air from under the car to the engine)
5) after heat shield is removed, then undoo the clips around the middle of the airbox (4 i think) and these can be done just with your fingers.
6) persuade the top half of the airbox to come out of the car. this takes a little work just becuase you have to move all the wires and tubes around it so it can slide out. be carefull not to pull too hard on any one wire/tube.
7) Now, you will either have your airfilter sitting on the bottom half of the airbox, or it came out with the top half. either way is okay. jsut make sure it is out of the engine compartment and make sure you put it somewhere CLEAN. getting dirt on the top side of the airfilter can be not good......
8) Now you should be looking right down to the bottom half of the airbox. to remove this, unbolt it from the side of the car (just one bolt that is right on top left of the airbox, easily visible). Now all that holds it in is 2 rubber gaskets on the bottom that it slides into. Just pull on it, and it should pop right out.
Now you are ready to work!
Good luck!!
And PS, WHENEVER YOU ARE WORKING IN THERE (drilling, cutting, ettc) put either a clean sock over the 2 hoses you disconnected, of cover the end in a plastic bag or seran wrap. You really dont want to get plastic shavings into your turbo inlet hose. you wont be happy. at all.
