Default Aircon Strikes Back Probs on A4 2.4SE V6 1998

Hi

Can someone help. I have recently purchased this Audi A4 2.4SE V6 1998 (AGA Engine). The aircon was working fine for about 2 weeks I had it, then all of a sudden stopped & couldn't hear it gassing when the car was switched off & stationary which it used to do. Because of this I had to eliminate problems, so I called the mobile aircon guy to recharge the aircon & said to me that I didn't need a recharge as the gas was already full.

Could anyone tell me what to look for, is it electrical or is it that the pump has gone?

Cheers Jason.

this sounds like the valve/plate has stuck in the blower, its an electrical component and was mentioned before but it was on another Audi site I hope this helps

there is something on the 12v.com site but basically its the center console area where the air blows out there is a plate in there which sticks preventing the change over from hot to cold and also a vacuum pipe which works the vent, only way in is by the side center console kick panels

Hi avant80@2.6

Thank you again, I'll check the site. Not a very good design then if it keeps sticking.

Can this be prevented from happening again if you get to it?

Hey looking into it, I noticed that the centre console vents must have been taken out before as I can see a little of the cloth trim sticking out a little on top of the air vents.

Cheers Jason

sadly its a common fault and caused by lack of use of the A/C (winter and summer) keeps the system lubricated but people only think of fuel consumption which is counter productive on repairs and its not that bad on MPG when used cheaper than driving along with the windows open which reduces drag coefficient

Hi avant80@2.6

Yeah I was told by one of the Audi Technicians to use the aircon at least twice a week in the UK, I started to do that & look what happens hehe.

Will have a look at the valve / plate tomorrow.

But once again thanks for your help.

Cheers Jason

the UK is the worst for it because we never though we would ever need A/C how sadly were we misinformed but its a learning curve to us all even those who use it regularly because they need to use it all year round (it work with cold and heat) but im new to it so I had to learn lol

Hi avant80@2.6

It's new to me as it's my first luxury to have aircon in the car hehe.

Typical this sort of thing has happened to me.

I have an oil leak on the rocker covers & bought the 2 gaskets for 47 GBP directly from Audi, now that is a rip off don't you think hehe. I'm doing the rocker covers this Sunday & I have a problem with the lower steer arms which hopefully will be done when I get paid.

I am sick to death of being ripped of all the time in the UK, probably the same with you where you are. Why is everything at such a high cost? These car makers are now are making it harder for smaller garages & soon there will not be any small garages left with all these laptops. Who knows what the dealerships are doing when they get hold of your car as for all I know they can put a fault into your car & time it when to happen, heck even a virus hehe.

Cheers Jason

problem is you need to know where to look for repairs and ripoffs only happen with the dealerships which is a world wide thing, you can email me 24/7 and guaranteed an answer if it sensible and when in the UK email me so I can help you out (other information given privately) and as long as im close to you I will be there
